Exact momentum sources for gust injection in flow simulations

Vortical gusts are unsteady flow disturbances that can affect the aerodynamic performance and stability of aircraft. Generating realistic vortical in simulations is challenging due to complexity diversity turbulence characteristics. This paper introduces a novel framework for creating using momentum sources. The method manipulate incoming with any desired divergence-free velocity perturbation at location avoid unwanted acoustic waves meanwhile. It starts from linearized incompressible equation without viscous effects. has frequency-domain representation, which an ordinary differential easy solve. Then, several conditions imposed determine unknown coefficients. Expressions source terms producing one-dimensional two-dimensional obtained. generated field compared specified gust shows outstanding agreement. Several parameters distribution added sources systematically studied find combination provide optimal various scenarios. Finally, model used assess interaction thin airfoils. results agree well analytical solutions provided by Sears model.
